Serve logo

From its founding, Atonement has been a church of community outreach and service. Its commitment to social action includes much more than money.
The Bible describes ministry as the service Christians offer both inside and outside the church in response to God's grace. A good tree produces good fruit and the fruit of a Christian life includes practical expressions of love. It is our intent to help our members discern their unique calling from God to serve in the kingdom.
"Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others,
faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." 1 Peter 4:10

Atonement Emergency Assistance Fund
Assistance is available on a private, confidential basis to members who have a short-term emergency.

Boulder change (Boulder Bucks)
We provide Boulder Change vouchers to needy persons who visit our church during the week. We also have canned and other non-perishable goods available for walk-ins.

cheyenne river indian reservation
Each Thanksgiving, we serve dinner and provide extra turkeys to people on this reservation. This year, we served 900+ people! Church members and the local community donated 250 turkeys, 1000 pounds of sausage, and $500 in cash donations. Sixty turkeys were cooked for dinner - the rest were given to needy families or saved for future dinners.

CROP Walk
Atonement has participated in this annual event for many years. This event raises awareness and funds to fight hunger - both locally and nationally.

Helping Hands
Church members are available to help each other with one-time, short-term projects.

Imagine!
Church members have painted, repaired, and done landscaping for one of Imagine! homes in Louisville, Colorado. Our Love Day ladies donated 3 quilts to the residents of the home. We are looking forward to our next project with Imagine!

Love Offerings
Each month, Atonement collects donations for a worthy and needy organization. Recipients of these donations include local agencies such as EFAA, Community Food Share, and Mother House; regional agencies such as Energy Outreach Colorado; and national agencies such as Lutheran World Relief and Habitat for Humanity.

Lutheran World Relief & ELCA Disaster response
Atonement supports both of these agencies through direct donations. Every day in 35 countries, Lutheran World Relief works to combat the causes of poverty and the dignity it robs from people's lives. ELCA's Disaster Response works to provide relief after domestic and international disasters.

Mission Trips
Our senior high school youth regularly travel to Juarez, Mexico, to build homes through a cooperative arrangement with Casas por Cristo, a non-profit charitable organization that provides housing, free of charge, to a Mexican family in need of adequate shelter. Those are our kids in the photo above!

In 2007, a group of adults and students traveled to Haiti on an immersion trip. Living with the children at the three homes affiliated with St. Joseph's Home For Boys (Trinity House, Wings of Hope, and St. Joseph's Home), the purpose of the trip was to experience the reality of the developing world through the eyes of faith and be in relationship with our sisters and brothers in Christ in Haiti.

One Campaign
The ONE Campaign is a new effort by Americans to rally Americans - ONE by ONE - to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. ONE is students and ministers, punk rockers and NASCAR moms, Americans of all beliefs and every walk of life, * and the Atonement community * united as ONE to help make poverty history. Atonement is a ONE Lutheran Congregation!

Save darfur
We are very concerned about the ongoing genocide in Darfur, Sudan. Recent events include educational sessions during our Christian Faith Development time, campaigns to send email and postcards to government officials, participating in a candlelight vigil on Pearl Street, and other efforts to raise awareness within our community.

Social Ministry Projects
The Social Ministry committee is always on the lookout for new and exciting projects to serve others in our community. Come join with us to do God's work.

Stephen Ministry
We provide confidential ministry to care receivers - those experiencing a life crisis or challenge who then receive the caring ministry of a Stephen Minister. The needs of care receivers may include divorce, loss of a loved one, hospitalization, terminal illness, loneliness, relocation, unemployment, retirement, empty nest, and other life transitions.
